ShiftRide's pricing is optimized for short trips within the city with the option of booking for multiple days. We decided to go with this model as our vision is to make ShiftRide as convenient as owning a car and more cost friendly.

Short Trips Within The City

These are trips that people already make on a daily basis including shopping, getting groceries, running errands, going out with friends, going to the movies, grabbing food, and more. It's great for driving places where either public transit won't go or it just takes way too long to get there. Since it's also faster to travel with ShiftRide, you can get to do more in less time.

"Usership" Pricing

We call this new model of accessing and driving cars: "Car Usership". To keep things fair to both car owners and users, our pricing is based on time with the car booked by you (in minutes). The rate for time is dependent on the car. Here's the breakdown for a sample entry-level car on ShiftRide:

NOTE: For longer trips, time fees are capped at 10 hours as a flat fee for each day you keep the car. Gas is only included in this price for trips shorter than 10 hours.

Time Fee: $0.10/min ($6 per hour or $60 per day)
Insurance Fees:
$0.05/min ($3.00 per hour or $30 per day)
Service Fee: $0.01/min ($0.60 per hour or $6 per day)

Total Fees: $0.16/min or $9.60/hr or $96/day

(Fees are before tax and for an entry-level car.)
(Fees can also fluctuate based on demand and availability of cars.)

Trips with ShiftRide vs Other Options

How is ShiftRide More Affordable?

From these trips taken with ShiftRide, you might notice that prices are much more affordable compared to hailing a ride or renting from a car sharing company.

The reason why ShiftRide is more affordable is that unlike ride-hailing companies, where there is a driver who's spending their time driving you from one place to another, you drive yourself. A lot of people find this experience more enjoyable as it puts you in control of your journey, lets you go at your own pace, and be spontaneous.

On the other hand, car sharing and car rental companies purchase vehicles for the sole purpose of renting them out to people and therefore must make their money back on these expensive purchases. With ShiftRide, however, you're driving someone else's car that usually would otherwise sit parked. And of course, you're insured with us once you're eligible to drive with ShiftRide.

[NEW] ShiftRide is Now Affordable for Daily Trips Too!

We recently introduced the flat fee daily pricing model to help save costs when you do decide to travel and keep the car for longer. After 10 hours, you will pay the same fee to keep the car for the whole day (up to 24 hours).

After the 24 hours, you will be charged by the minute again until the next daily flat fee kicks in. You are responsible to pay for gas and fill up the car to replace the gas you used out of pocket. We will ask you for photos of the fuel levels to ensure this.

We recommend that you get a price estimate for your trip when in doubt of taking ShiftRide vs other options. In order to get a price estimate, you can visit our website or tap the $ icon in the app when browsing cars as shown here:
