First and foremost, take a deep breath, get the car to a safe location if you can, park, and proceed with the following procedures:

  1. If the car is smoking or on fire, immediately get all of the passengers and yourself out of the vehicle, and get as far away as you safely can before calling 911.

  2. In other cases, put your hazard lights on and safely get out of the vehicle if necessary.

At that point, If it's Between 9 AM – 9 PM (day):

  1. Message or call your car provider to let them know about the issue. Ask the car provider if they have roadside assistance or a preference in one to contact.

  2. Contact that roadside company for assistance or find one through your city or online search if the car provider has no preference.

  3. Report the incident to us through the chat on shiftride.com. In the meantime, take pictures of the physical damages done to the car or any objects involved.

  4. Follow procedures from the roadside assistance personnel.

  5. With all of the information and pictures you have, message us with your subscription information, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If it's Between 9 PM – 9 AM (overnight):

  1. Please find a local roadside company through your city or online search if the car provider has no preference. Have them tow the car to the car provider's address.

  2. Report the incident to us through the chat on shiftride.com. In the meantime, take pictures of the physical damages done to the car or any objects involved.

  3. Follow procedures from the roadside assistance personnel.

  4. With all of the information and pictures you have, message us with your subscription information, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Will I be responsible for damages?

We will have to review your trip photos, any reports of the damages, and work with the car provider to identify the cause of the breakdown.

At that point, based on our Terms of Service, we’ll either charge the damage fees to you or file an insurance claim for the car provider, if necessary. Please note that if there is an insurance claim made, you are responsible for a $1,000 insurance deductible payment if you were at-fault.
